Hegewsich Fest | Aug 5, 2023
This year marked the 140th Birthday of Hegewisch! Located on 133rd and Baltimore on the Southeast Side of Chicago, the event took place in the heart of downtown Hegewisch. Despite the rainy weather, the festival drew a crowd, and the performers did not disappoint.
I was able to see three bands at this year's fest: Exit 9, a Hegewisch-based band was the first band was up first. Despite the rain, which stopped just in time for their set, the band kept the energy high with a selection of hits from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s. The crowd was clearly enjoying themselves, singing along to popular rock songs.
Next up was Hot Rocks, the official Rolling Stones tribute band of the midwest. Hot Rocks, a Rolling Stones cover band from the Midwest, is a must-see for any Stones fan. Their attention to detail in their performances is remarkable, and their energy is infectious. The singer of the band could be mistaken for Mick Jagger, making their performances that much more authentic. They had the crowd singing and dancing along to all the classic Stones songs.
The festival closed out with Kashmir, a Led Zeppelin cover band. They play with so much energy and really do justice to the classic Zeppelin tracks. They know how to get the crowd going and leave people wanting more. Whether they're playing in a small venue or at a big festival, I've heard that Kashmir always puts on an amazing show that will keep you rocking. Despite the rain starting up again, the crowd was undeterred, and the street was full of people dancing and jamming to the music.
Overall, the performers at Hegewisch Fest were top-notch, I wish I could have made it out earlier in the day. The festival itself was a great way to celebrate the community and despite the weather, the crowd was enthusiastic and engaged throughout the day, and it was clear that everyone was having a great time.
