Skyway Stereo, Eat'em Ups & Open Jam at Katalyst Records | Jan 14, 2023
Although Gina and I were tired and half alive after the fun we had at Empty Bottle the night prior (recap coming), I felt like I had a calling to head out and photograph some serious local talent at Katalyst Music Gallery last night.. Members of Skyway Stereo and Eat'em Ups share a combined hundreds of years of experience playing true South Side rock.
From originals to fun covers, the packed record store was dancing, singing (just like us showgurlz love to do)! The really exciting part for me was when the two bands' sets ended and the floor was open to friends and fans to come up and jam freely. In particular, the room was in a roar when the tune of"Hey Jude," started playing. I was particularly enamored watching big-time Beatles fan, Christ Kito Sandoval jam on guitar. I met Kito this month and had the pleasure of hearing some of his stories and seeing some of the guitars he built! Kito's got a one-day exhibit happening just down the block from Katalyst later this month at Artery SE and I'm way-excited to see these same people there again!
The overall vibe in the room felt just like family-- and I love enjoying music with my family! I'm looking forward to experiencing more micro-shows at this space soon.
